The Puerto Rico Canary Club was organized in 1969 when a group of enthusiastic breeders decided they were ready to meet the standards for show birds. In 1983 the Associación de Canaricultores de Puerto Rico was organized. It is dedicated mainly to color and type canaries. The Caribbean Canary Club was established in 1990, at first it was intended as a type canary club but with time and as the hobby grew color and song canaries were included. In 1991 our Canary Judges’ College was created. We have NCA certified judges and expect to have COM judges in the near future.
In 1991 Puerto Rico is admitted into the Confédération Onithologique Mondiale as an independent entity. The 52nd United States National Cage Bird Show is celebrated for the first time in Puerto Rico, at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan.
In November of 2003 we organized our First Color Type and Song Canary National with the participation of our three clubs. On may 7, 2006 a group of Timbrado enthusiasts belonging to the Caribbean Canary Club meet in Villalba to initiate our first song canary club, Club Puertorriqueño del Canario de Canto Timbrado Español. We are proud and pleased with the development of our canary breeding and exposition in the Island and continue to work towards fulfilling our future goals. |
