Black:Through repeated selective breeding Black series exhibition canaries acquired the desired distinctiveness, black, eumelanin design overlaid on one of the six ground colors available, black dispersed melanin and black horny parts and underflue. Long black continuous striation design starting at the base of the beak, running to the flanks and chest.

 

             MOST COMMON PIGMENT DEFFECTS 

· Narrow and broken striation design

· Striation design opaque  by the presence of phaeomelanin

· Little or no striation on flanks and chest

· Lack of dispersed melanin on bib chest and under parts

· Patchy coloration or check frost

· Clear (lack of melanization) beak feet and nails

 

 

            Black yellow or ivory (Green)

             Black Dominant or Recessive White (Blue)

Brown: sex linked mutation that modifies the black eumelanin to brown. Striation design long, chocolate brown and continuous that extend to the flanks and chest area, brown dispersed melanin overlaid on one of six ground colors. Tanned beak, feet  and claws. Dark grey under flue.

 

             MOST COMMON  DEFFECTS

· Narrow and broken striation design

· Excessive phaeomelanin which usually are Phaeo carriers

· Lack of contrast between striation and lipochrome

· Lack of dispersed melanin in forehead and chest

· Flesh colored beak and feet

· Absence of brown oxidation on mantle and head

 

 

             Brown Yellow or Ivory  (Gold Brown)

             Brown Dominant or Recessive White  (Silver Brown)

             Brown Red or Rose Ivory

 

Agate: first sex linked mutation that reduces eumelanin striation to narrow interrupted segments that start a few centimeters from the beak and are extended to flanks and chest area. Dilutes to a pearly grey peripheral melanin of the long feathers and dispersed melanin. Noticeable under mandible black striation (moustache), clear non melanized eyebrows. Beak and feet grayish. Under flue  charcoal grey.

 

                MOST COMMON  DEFFECTS

· Wide or continuous striation design

· Striation design clouded by  presence of phaeomelanin

· Absence or very lightly melanized striation and  moustache

· Absence of striation design on flanks

· Patchy coloration

· Dark feet, beak and dispersed melanin
